Pascal Lamy first arrived in Salzburg in 1996 as part of the faculty for Europe on the Eve of the Year 2000 as member of the executive committee of Credit Lyonnais, Paris. At that session, Lamy gave a lecture on whether an economic and monetary union would happen. Upon his return to Salzburg Global in 2005, Lamy had been newly elected as director-general of the World Trade Organization, bringing crucial insight to the session The World Trade Negotiations: The Politics of Economics and Trade.
